Consultant-Led Urology Clinic – Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a GP referral?
No. You can book directly with our Consultant Urologist without a GP referral.

If you have relevant letters, test results or imaging, these can be uploaded securely in advance of your appointment.

Our one-stop clinic is designed to allow consultant assessment and key investigations to take place during a single visit, where appropriate.

Not every patient will require every investigation. The exact approach depends on your symptoms and clinical findings.
A flexible cystoscopy is a procedure that allows the inside of the bladder and urethra to be examined using a thin, flexible camera.

The inside of the urethra (water-pipe) is numbed using local anaesthetic gel and the test usually takes only a few minutes. Most patients tolerate the procedure well. You may experience mild stinging when passing urine afterwards, which typically settles within 24–48 hours.
Local anaesthetic gel is used to numb the urethra (water-pipe) before the procedure. Patients commonly describe the sensation as uncomfortable rather than painful.

We will explain the procedure carefully beforehand and you will have the opportunity to ask questions before proceeding.
The one-stop clinic is particularly useful for patients with:
It can reduce the need for multiple appointments and allow earlier clarification of diagnosis and management.

Yes. Blood tests can be taken on the day of your appointment. We can arrange relevant imaging, including ultrasound, CT and MRI, where indicated. We can also review investigations performed elsewhere.
Yes. Consultant-led circumcision and frenuloplasty are available. These procedures are performed in our minor operations suite, under local anaesthetic.

More detailed information about these procedures is available on our dedicated men’s health pages.
Where general anaesthetic surgery is required, this can be arranged by Mr Moon at an alternative surgical facility. The need for this will be discussed during consultation.
Appointment availability varies, but we aim to offer timely access to consultant assessment. If your symptoms are urgent, please inform our team when booking.
Visible haematuria should always be assessed promptly. If you are experiencing heavy bleeding, clot retention, fever or severe pain, you should seek urgent medical attention via your GP or emergency services.

For stable symptoms, you can arrange an appointment at our Consultant Urologist Clinic.
